PRUNING

We take shrub pruning very seriously. It is a task that is not usually done well by most contractors. To prune shrubs properly takes skill and a tremendousShrubtrim.jpg (150888 bytes) amount of patience. But when it is done properly it can give a project a neat and well managed appearance. We will prune your shrubs in a natural manner when applicable. Sometimes the conditions require formal pruning and in those instances we will conform to the plant's requirement. Wherever possible we recommend lacing than shearing. The skirts of the shrubs will be raised to a height of one foot to create differentiation between the shrub and the top of the ground cover so the ground cover doesn't grow up into the bush.

Any large, woody shrubs on slopes will be pruned once per year in the spring. We feel that in doing this we can maintain a more natural and open appearance.

Shearing tends to accelerate the aging process of the shrubbery thus causing a proliferation of deadwood in the center of the shrubs. This also tends to weaken the shrubs by inhibiting the air and light penetration. Our pruning practices will be to lace the shrubs as stated above. This practice takes a lot of patience and requires a great deal of skill but it is also the way nature intended the shrubs to look, and will make your project aesthetically pleasing.
